The EA Store had a couple of really nice updo meshes (Swept Up & Rolled and French Twist) that I never put in my game because I was so annoyed they didn't come for teens. Some time after I learned how to convert hair it occurred to me that these would be good candidates for conversion -- nice styles in simple, one-group meshes.
Retexturing them wasn't so easy, but c'est la vie.
Each style comes in Dynamite, Depth Charge, Pyrotechnic, and Volatile, with Mail Bomb for elders in the Dynamite file. Also included for each is a bmp of the Volatile texture for clean recoloring. All meshes are included.

Date: 2012-03-18 11:35 am (UTC)The mapping is just nuts enough that I'm not surprised no one else wanted to bash their heads against it, but I'm glad I'm stubborn enough to have tried it and that other people appreciate these styles as much as I do. :D

Date: 2012-03-18 11:33 am (UTC)Thank you! These weren't any exception, trust me. XD But besides sheer persistence, I've found a few useful tricks for retexturing EAxis hair: having a painting program with a functional warp tool, previewing the texture on the mesh in Milkshape (it's easier to match up seams when I can look at the UV map with a few clicks), and besides using the original texture as a guide, blending it with the new texture, which gives it a lot of definition without looking crayon-y or strawlike. I can't do the blending with curly hair, but curly textures are a lot more forgiving so it evens out.

Date: 2012-03-18 11:20 am (UTC)Thank you so much. <3 I was so, so bad at retexturing hair for the longest time, but somehow doing that huge mess of default replacements helped me figure it out -- it's awesome to know I'm actually good at it! XD
What's so creepy about my model? :D Is it the pink, or the glassy eyed Bodyshop stare? XD I've been making so many sims lately that the dead look of sims in Bodyshop has started looking normal to me...
