Upload: All Askew Extended colours

This is an addon set to the original All Askew hair set for women and men, and includes all of Pooklet's new naturals, including grays. It's binned the same way as the original set -- Corumbent and Landmine are familied with Grenade and Fission, elders keep their colour, the new grays are in the custom bin. Also included is
hat_plays_sims's Smoke Bomb gray.
On that note, in the future I'll be using Hat's binning system, with elders turning gray, one gray per family.
Alllso included is my own homebrew colour, Fire Bottle. Molotov is too 'holy shit, RED' for my taste in naturals, and after seeing a boy with a light-but-not-pale sandy red haircolour, I realized that was what was missing for me.
Compare:

You'll notice two folders in with the extended colours: 'Molotov Custom' and 'Molotov Binned'. In the 'custom' folder, Fire Bottle is binned in Molotov's place, and Molotov is in the custom bin. In the 'binned' folder, both Nolotov and Fire Bottle are binned, but Fire Bottle has its own, lonely family of one. You can only have one, so chuck the folder you don't want.
[For the curious, under the hood Fire Bottle is composed of a bg layer of Molotov, a layer of Molotov set to Screen at 50%, and a layer of Grenade set to Saturation at 50%.]
Download.

In other news, I'm considering another homebrew colour, a rather bluish gray, specifically for use with short fluffy styles and updos, for those little old ladies who like to overdo the blue rinse. XD
I also need to do the last tweaks on the Gaius conversion and spend a few eternities making all of the colours for it. If I figure out just how to remove ages from a package so that Bodyshop doesn't grab defaults for the non-used ages, it'll make my life tons easier, as the mesh will only be for YAF-EF (I'm not size converting that little bastard).

Date: 2010-08-31 09:39 pm (UTC)Delete the property sets for the unused ages in the recolor package. I don't know if you have to work from a recolor of the hair first (I do, but I'm not making new hairs, just recolors, so yeah), but if you delete the property sets, you can clone that sucker without having to remove ages in the binning tool... which is ALWAYS where I screwed up. Always.
I'm flattered you like Smoke Bomb! There must always be a full family. Oh yes. (Which is the only thing that makes me sad about your new red. Color actions for new full families of colors? Sign me up! I keep wishing there were color actions for Nouk's colors, which may be something I work at when I'm allowed to do something besides catch up with the reading list and sew stuff.)

Date: 2010-08-31 09:48 pm (UTC)Smoke Bomb is really nice. :D It's got a great salt-and-pepper effect, rather like I remember my granny's hair being before she decided she'd rather be a blond. XD
Hee, sorry about making you sad with the red. It's something I thought I'd put up in case anyone else was interested, too -- Molotov is rather too 'uses henna very very VERY often' for me to like in the naturals bin, so I needed a replacement. Then I saw that redheaded kid at the grocery store and that, I realized, was what I was looking for, and ashy ginger. Now, I bet I could whip up some more colours to go with it (say a wheat blond, a dark chocolate brown, and a really unnatural but gorgeous purplish black), but That Way Lies Madness and Overfull Hair Bins, so I will resist.

Date: 2010-08-31 10:29 pm (UTC)I should probably work out how to make Smoke Bomb an action, instead of a 'run these two actions and multiply the result to find X.'
... Overfull... Hair Bins? What is this madness of which you speak? Course, there are only so many hairstyles I can use in a Medieval game-- so nice to have a built-in limitation, if it doesn't work with the theme I can't have it-- so having them all in eleventy zillion colors is a pretty good compromise... even if all the colors have to MATCH, man. (Now, see, I feel the need for a red-black-- like a black cat in the sun, not like Shrapnel-- a dark golden blond (which is easy, run Incendiary over Incendiary), a more auburn-y brown, and a pale silvery gray. Oh, and every red ever goddamn I love red hair.)

Date: 2010-08-31 10:49 pm (UTC)HMX ontop of a timebomb layer and set to 15% opacity makes for a reasonable purplish grey I've found. It's what I've been using as a fourth grey for a while now.
(And if someone was to make a real rich chocolate brown, I would be all over that)
Don't even talk about removing spare ages, it's driving me nuts a the moment - for some reason the intances on the property sets are not matching the intances for either the 3DIR or the Binary Index, so if I delete the matching files for elder, it kills the young adult stage :|

I'd blame it on my elderly computer, but it's actually my obsessively perfectionist nature that won't so much as allow me to start building the custom 'hood I want until ALL BODYSHOP ITEMS ARE PERFECT. That way really does lie madness, which is why I had to be Firm with myself and limit my unnatural colours to haircolours I've actually had, which is still unfortunately (for my sanity) rather a lot. Good thing for me I don't need to have every style in dyed colours!
Red hair, mm. I could probably think up two bins worth of red-toned hair alone if I let myself. *g*

Date: 2010-08-31 11:14 pm (UTC)Hair is the most annoying bodyshop item by far, isn't it? Clothes have their pickiness about morphs being just so or they explode and fiddliness with bone assignments and such, but hair is downright arcane down in the guts of it.

Date: 2010-09-01 12:33 am (UTC)Oh god I know just how that goes. Can't do the 'hood until I have the defaults done. ... And the hair. And that aging mod, which is actually almost done (it was hot, I cheated on my No Making Sims Content in August rule, because it wasn't fun making stuff, it was math). And now that we can have separate defaults for boy babies and girl babies, I want to do that. I'm technically limiting my naturals to Pooklet's and Nouk's, although I like some of Nouk's enough that doing color actions is pretty frickin' tempting. I don't bother with any unnaturals beyond Time Bomb, and considering Primer is pretty white, I could probably save myself 1/17th of my hair folder and ditch the Time Bomb customs.
Man, I would have so many redheaded dolls if I hadn't had to institute a No More White Women rule. (Ethnic women are okay. Kids of all ethnicities are okay. Men of all ethnicities are okay. I'm happy to say that rule has my doll collection almost gender-balanced, which is almost unheard of in a collector who isn't specifically after male dolls.) But it's easy to get a lot of different reds in dolls. In Sims, I'm not happy unless there's a whole new family, evidently.

Date: 2010-09-01 03:04 pm (UTC)You probably have the poorly animated hair hidden, as it's definitely a modern style. It's kind of side parted, with blunt cut fringe and a razorcut look to the ends. And the bone assignments are SO WRONG. I did better'n that on my first hair, for pity's sake.
Now I must go tend to my quest of MAKING ALL OF THE THINGS and solve my women-have-tons-of-shirts-men-have-none disparity. I will not think of making a hair family all of more red-toned colours. Nope. Tally ho~
